This morning at approximately 3:45 a.m., a vehicle crashed into the front entrance of FHC damaging the doors and the safety vestibule. The student driver did not sustain any major injuries. Because of the broken glass and metal, and because we could not secure the building, we canceled school today for the safety of our students and staff. The Fire Marshall has inspected the building and declared it structurally sound, so we will have school as scheduled tomorrow, Thursday, April 25.

Our FHSD facilities and building personnel have been working all morning to clean up the area and remove the debris. We will be boarding up the main entrance for now and repair the area at a later date. Until then, we will be using the gymnasium/theater entrance just to the left of the main entrance for students and visitors. In order to maintain our security protocols, we will set up a buzzer system at those doors and have an additional security guard present as well.

Today was scheduled to be the ACT test date for all of our juniors. We are working with ACT to reschedule the test as soon as possible. Also at this time, we do not know if we will have to make up the missed attendance day; that will be determined by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. We will have extracurricular activities today as planned using the alternate entrance.

We want to thank the FHC building staff, District facilities personnel, the Cottleville Police Department, and the Cottleville Fire Protection District for their assistance today. It was a team effort, and all of our students and staff are safe. We will have extra counselors at the building for the remainder of the week if any students need their services. We look forward to seeing everyone at school tomorrow!
