Every year, culinary teams from the FHSD high schools come together to compete in the annual Sodexo Culinary Celebrations Iron Chef Competition. Sodexo, the District’s food service provider, generously donates all of the food for the event. Wednesday, Nov. 1, was the start of the NCAA early signing period, the first day high school seniors are able to sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI). In FHSD, it is a day to honor student-athletes in many sports as they prepare for the next step in their academic and athletic careers. Signing an NLI is all about commitment – the future commitment to play a sport at the collegiate level, as well as the past commitment that has provided this opportunity for high school students.  Read more about FHSD Early Signing Day

The Missouri Music Educators Association wants us all to help trumpet the importance of music education in our schools. One of the ways it does so is by honoring the best musicians in each area of the state. The students at Francis Howell Central High School excel at academics, and the proof is in their grades and test scores. And while classes like chemistry and calculus help to prepare students for college, what about practical hands-on skills? “Real World Wednesday is our opportunity at FHC to make sure that when our kids leave here they are ready,” said Dr. Sonny Arnel, Principal. “That includes academics, but also real-world skills to be a well-rounded person. We want them to have an opportunity to learn how to change a tire or jump-start a car. In the wake of tragedy, when the waves subside, what is revealed is often inspiring. Tragedies like the hurricanes in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico can reveal the good in communities as they work to recover. People rally together for a common goal, to help those in need. All it takes is someone to step up and lead. Isabel “Issy” Schwartz was the most recent FHSD student to inspire others in her community to help those victims. At the September meeting, Ashley Roland took her turn. We all have important people in our lives, people whose presence can’t be quantified in numbers or data. They mean so much to us – the joy in their smile, the happiness their anecdotes give us, and the fulfillment they bring just by showing how much they care. The Francis Howell Central High School family wants to return the favor to a teacher who exhibits what it means to be a Spartan, math teacher and Sensations dance coach, Roxanne Fetsch. Both goals are achieved with the Peachjar flyer distribution system. FHSD delivers school information and approved flyers from community organizations electronically through Peachjar. Niche has just released its 2018 list of best Schools in America, and has ranked the Francis Howell School District No. 16 in Missouri. This is a reminder that all incoming seniors in the Francis Howell School District are required by Missouri law to have TWO meningococcal immunizations by the first day of their senior year, unless the first dose was administered after the age of 16 years old, in which case only one dose is required.  Read more about Senior Immunization Requirements

New Activity Fees and Changes to High School Activity Transportation

The FHSD Board of Education has approved the recommendation of the Extracurricular Task Force to establish an activity fee structure for the 2017-18 school year. Students participating in a sport, activity, or club - in which a sponsor or coach is paid a stipend - will be required to pay a yearly activity fee. Students will be assessed one fee regardless of how many sports/activities/clubs they participate in during the school year. It’s part of the mission of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) – prepare students today for success tomorrow. One of the greatest ways to prepare a student for college is to give them a taste of what a college course is like, and the best way to do that, is to have them take an Advanced Placement (AP) course. FHC Student Allison Mayfield Shines at SkillsUSA

Allison Mayfield, a senior at Francis Howell Central High School (FHC), is a Lewis & Clark Career Center student who earned the right to travel to Louisville, Kentucky, on June 19-24 for SkillsUSA’s 53rd annual National Leadership and Skills Conference. Mayfield placed fourth nationally in the Basic Health Care category, competing against other first place state medalists from across the country. The conference is the world’s largest showcase of skilled trade competitions with more than 15,000 students, teachers, education leaders, and representatives from 600 national corporations, trade associations, businesses, and labor unions participating in the event.  Read more about FHC Student Allison Mayfield Shines at SkillsUSA
