PERSONAL LIFETIME FITNESS
9TH GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Credit: 1/2 Unit
Meets 1/2 the physical education requirement for graduation
Prerequisite: Required for 9th grade

This course will provide the opportunity to develop and maintain fitness for a lifetime of wellness. Fitness concepts and components will be emphasized as the student participates in a wide variety of physical activities (fitness assessment and evaluation, individual sports, team sports, and other activities).


NINTH GRADE HEALTH
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Required for Grade 9
REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION

This course is designed to engage students in activities that foster the development of each individual's physical, mental, and emotional well being leading to the adoption of effective health behaviors. A student-centered approach used in this course provides students the opportunity for accepting personal responsibility for a healthy, active lifestyle throughout their lifetime. NOTE: This course contains a unit on human sexuality. Missouri State statute (07.015) gives parents the right to remove their student from this portion of the course. Contact student's teacher if this is desired.


AEROBICS/PERSONAL WELLNESS I
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness
Meets second 1/2 credit for physical education requirement for graduation

Aerobics/Personal Wellness I provides an introduction to aerobic training through participation in aerobic exercises, conditioning activities, step aerobic exercise, and resistance training. The student will assess and evaluate their personal fitness level in order to set personal goals toward developing and maintaining a healthful level of fitness and lifestyle.


AEROBICS/PERSONAL WELLNESS II
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Aerobics/Personal Wellness I

Aerobics/Personal Wellness II provides the student the opportunity to explore different approaches to aerobic training through participation in a variety of aerobic exercises, conditioning activities, step aerobic exercise, and resistance/weight training. Students will create workouts, demonstrating all aspects of the "perfect" workout. Each student will assess and evaluate their personal fitness level in order to set personal goals toward developing and maintaining a healthful level of fitness and lifestyle.


AEROBICS/PERSONAL WELLNESS III
Credit: 1/2 unit
Prerequisite: Aerobics/Personal Wellness II with a grade of "C" or better

Aerobics/Personal Wellness III will provide the student with the opportunity to demonstrate and apply concepts and techniques associated with a personal aerobic fitness program. Each student will assess and evaluate their personal fitness level land develop a fitness plan, setting and working toward the accomplishment of personal goals necessary for developing and maintaining a healthful level of fitness and lifestyle.


AEROBICS/PERSONAL WELLNESS IV
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Aerobics/Personal Wellness III with a grade of "C" or better

Aerobics/Personal Wellness IV will provide the student with the opportunity to demonstrate and apply concepts and techniques associated with a personal aerobic fitness program. Each student will assess and evaluate their personal fitness level and develop a fitness plan, setting and working toward the accomplishment of personal goals necessary for developing and maintaining a healthful level of fitness and lifestyle.


BASKETBALL/SOFTBALL/FIELD SPORTS
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness
Meets second 1/2 credit for physical education requirement for graduation

Through the participation in several sports, students will gain the knowledge necessary to become an educated participant and spectator. The involvement in specific sports will provide an atmosphere that is enjoyable to the participants, promotes cooperation among peers and develops an appreciation for the degree of fitness necessary to participate. Games and skill activities will be designed in a manner that students can achieve success in individual and team play.


VOLLEYBALL/TENNIS/BADMINTON
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness
Meets second 1/2 credit for physical education requirement for graduation

Through the participation in several sports, students will gain the knowledge necessary to become an educated participant and spectator. FITNESS WALKING
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness, grade 10, 11, 12

This course is designed for students to improve cardiovascular fitness by walking. This course is completely activity based and suggested for those who are self motivated. Various walking activities and assessments will be used throughout the class. This class is outdoors; therefore students should be prepared to walk in any type of weather.


WEIGHT TRAINING AND CONDITIONING I
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness
Meets second 1/2 credit for physical education requirement for graduation

This course will provide an introduction to weight training with an emphasis on student participation. The student will be presented with the proper technique for a variety of weight training movements with an emphasis on learning proper movement rather than strength development. Grades will be determined through participation, written tests, and the completion of a workout journal/notebook.


WEIGHT TRAINING AND CONDITIONING II
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Weight Training and Conditioning I

This course has two main objectives: Development of an understanding of weight training as a lifetime physical activity and development of the skills necessary for the proper performance of strength training movements. The student will learn to design an implement their own individual workout and keep track of their progress by keeping a required workout journal/notebook. Grades are determined through participation in class, written tests, and completion of their workout journal/notebook.


WEIGHT TRAINING AND CONDITIONING III
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Weight Training and Conditioning II with a grade "C" or better recommended

This course has the following objectives: to continue the development of the individual workout plan designed in Weight Training II and to continue the progress toward the individual's strength and fitness goals. Students will identify the different muscles and muscle groups that are trained by the various exercises that are performed during the class. Grades are to be determined through participation, written tests, and their individual workout journal/log.


WEIGHT TRAINING AND CONDITIONING IV
Credit: 1/2 Unit
Prerequisite: Weight Training and Conditioning III with a grade of "C" or better recommended

This course has the following objectives: To continue the development of the individual's knowledge, strength, and cardiovascular endurance developed in the previous weight training courses. Student will develop knowledge, understanding and utilization of body composition, strength production, cardiovascular fitness, sport/activity specificity, and injury prevention and rehabilitation. Discussions will be held concerning current trends in strength and conditioning and the use of ergonomic aids as they apply to weight training. Grades will be determined through participation, written tests, and a completed workout journal/notebook.


DRIVER'S EDUCATION/FIRST AID SAFETY
Credit: 1/2 Unit
This course is not to be used for a physical education requirement; elective credit only
Prerequisite: Must turn 15 prior to end of semester enrolled

This class provides familiarization with state driving laws, rules, and regulations by using the Missouri Driver's Guide. Students will learn basic defensive driver concepts, the responsibilities of being a vehicle owner/operator (including maintenance and insurance information), and safe versus unsafe driving conditions as well as the effects of alcohol/drugs on driving. Knowledge and practice of basic first aid procedures, including CPR, will be addressed through this course. Students have the option of participating in an instructional driving experience. There is a fee for this option.


OUTDOOR EDUCATION I
Credit: 1/2 Unit
This course is not be used for a physical education credit requirement; elective credit only
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness

This course will provide basic information on hunter ethics and tradition, hunting seasons, hunter safety course, proper gun handling, firearms and safety, and an awareness of Missouri's outdoors. Students will be participating in some outdoor activities.


OUTDOOR EDUCATION II
Credit: 1/2 Unit
This course is not to be used for a physical education credit requirement; elective credit only
Prerequisite: Personal Lifetime Fitness

This course will provide basic information about different types of fishing, skills of casting, fish identification, camping and hiking, regulations and responsibilities of the fisherman, and an awareness of Missouri's outdoors. Students will be participating in some outdoor activities.
